Trademarks, TV, and Twitter Shorthand: Has the Hashtag Had Its Day?

First of all, the hashtag has an identity crisis: it’s the phrase following the # (“hash”) symbol, except when you are stuck in someone’s voicemail system.  Then it’s called the pound key.  Or the number key.  So maybe Twitter is wise to be talking about dumping this symbolic chameleon, as has been reported.
